Badaru hibiscus has different colors; yellow, salmon pink multi-coloured, double blossom, and red. The red color is the most common flower in Nigeria. The hibiscus plant is drought tolerant, relatively easy to grow, but not suitable for mechanized harvest, labor-intensive to process, and can grow as part of a multi-cropping system. The extracts from hibiscus flowers and leaves have many uses and benefits, either medically or in industrial production. Dry hibiscus flower drink, locally known as Zobo, can be processed into hot and cold herbal beverages, jellies, and confectioneries. The leaves are used extensively for animal fodder and fiber.
